Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security process that requires two distinct forms of verification to grant access to an account or system. This usually involves something the user knows (like a password) and something the user possesses (like a smartphone for a code), significantly increasing account security.

Aegis Authenticator is an open-source 2FA app for generating time-based (TOTP) and counter-based (HOTP) one-time passwords. Key features: secure local storage with optional encryption, easy QR-code import/export, backup and restore (encrypted file or Android backup), support for multiple accounts and customizable icons, and biometric or PIN lock. Benefit: provides a privacy-respecting, feature-rich way to protect accounts with two-factor authentication while keeping keys under the user's control.
Proton Authenticator is a secure, privacy-focused authentication app that generates time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) for two-factor authentication (2FA). Main features include offline OTP generation, easy QR-code setup, cross-device backup and recovery via end-to-end encryption, and support for multiple accounts. Benefit: strengthens account security by adding a second verification factor while keeping your auth data private and recoverable.
